Dr Ajmone’s Biography

  • Born in Santhià, Italy, in 1944.

  • 1980: University graduation in «Clinical Psychology» at the University of Padova.

  • Follows: Specialization in «Behavioristic and Cognitive Psychotherapy» at the Watson Institute of Turin; successively reckognized by the Italian Ministry.

  • 1980: Lecturer of «Methodology and Didactics» at the ministerial professional training course in physical-motorial education for primary-school teachers; here appointed by the Ministry of Education.

  • 1982: Lecturer at the training course for social educators «Behavioral technology in the rehabilitation of the handicapped» at the “Comunità Giovani” of Racconigi (Cuneo).

  • 1982-83: Lecturer at the adjournment course «The severely handicapped child», reserved to the teachers of the Municipal Special Education Centers, organized by the Councillorship of Education, Turin.

  • 1982-83: Lecturer at the adjournment course for Executive of Didactic Clubs, organized by the Councillorship of Education, Turin.

  • 1983: Lecturer at the Professional Training Course of the District of Turin on the treatment of «Deep psychophysical handicap and multiply disabled».

  • 1984-1988: Lecturer of «Clinical Psychology» at the Watson Institute of Turin for the specialization courses in «Cognitive-Behavioristicl Psychotheraphy», reckognized byt the Italian Association of Behaviour Analysis and Modification (A.I.A.M.C.) and by the Ministry.

  • Assistant at the chair of “Childhood Games” from 1977 to 1982 at I.S.E.F. (Higher Institute of Physical Education) in Turin.

  • 1986-1990: Advisor for the Watson Institute for the psychotherapeutic treatment of phobias, depressions, and obessions.

  • 1982, 1984, 1985, 1986: Lecturer in psychology at the preparatory courses for teaching in governement schools, held by the U.I.L. School Union of Turin.

  • 1981-1990: Psychopedagogical advisor of the U.I.L. Union of Turin.

  • 1996: Founds PROXIMA, EZINE of Psychology and Human Sciences.

  • 1997-2002: Member of the scientific committee of Associazione Anthropos & Iatria , Internation Scientific Association for Research, Study and Development of Anthropological Medicine — European Accademy for Borderline Disciplines. President pro. Paolo Aldo Rossi, lecturer of «History of Scientific Thought» at the University of Genoa.

  • 1996-2004: Member of the editorial committee of the Informazione, Psicologia, Psichiatria, Psicoterapia magazine. Scientific Director: professor Riccardo Venturini, lecturer of «Psychophysiology» at the University La Sapienza of Rome. Director: dr Oliviero Rossi.

  • 1996-2004: Membro of the editorial staff of La gazzetta degli Agagucchi.

  • 2000: Promoter of PROXIMA’s Appeal to the Consulta Nazionale per la Salute Mentale» against the abuses of psychiatric drugs treatments. Subscribed by outstanding people and associations.

  • 2001: Founds OISM, the Italian Observatory on Mental Health, of which he has been President until 2005, and presently honorary President. OISM soon distinguished itself for the quality of its contributions and constant effort aimed at the overcoming of the medical model of mental problems, as well as for the defense of human rights.

  • 2001: Lecturer at the Adjournment Seminar for School Teachers and Directors, in Modena, against the use of psychiatric drugs and the ADHD diagnosis, on the subject «Ideological use of diagnosis and drugs»

  • 2002: Dr Ajmone is interviewed by various Italian radio stations on subjects pertaining psychiatry.

  • 2003: designated Honorary Member of the European Association of Psychoanalysis , together with professor Loren Mosher and Thomas Szasz. President of EAP: Dr Antoine Fratini.

  • 2004: Dr Ajmone is invited by the Verona branch of the European Association of Psychoanalysis to hold a conference on the subject of «Mental problems and cures that do not cure»

  • He’s summoned, and presents a report, at the audition of the Fourth Permanent Commission of the Regional Council of Piemonte, on the 27 of October 2004, on the subject “Psychofarmachologic treatments on children and teenagers”.

  • Promotes the telematic survey «Would you like a law forbidding prescription of psychiatric drugs to under-eighteens». 89% of the people voted that they are against the prescription of drugs to under-eighteen.

  • Publishes works on the magazines: Psicologia e Scuola, Giunti e Barbera editore; Scuola Viva, SEI editrice; Babele, Associazione Sammarinese degli Psicologi; Edizioni Corsi, Provincia di Torino; Proxima, EZINE; O.I.S.M., website of the Italian Observatory on Mental Health; A.E.P., website of the European Association of Psychoanalysis. Particular attention deserve the Ethical Guidelines for Mental Health that Dr Ajmone has formulated and published on OISM website as an Ethical Manifesto.
